Each box is unique and has its own story. The arabesque style boxes highlight the ornate and complex beauty of this unique style of art. Since the time of the ancient Egyptians, culture and religion has evolved drastically. With the Islamization of Egypt, architecture and home decor has taken on a more oriental, geometric style. A notable period with exquisite ornate furnishings starts with the emergence of the Arabesque art style.

The arabesque art style emerged in Arab countries but most notably in Egypt. Egyptian artists found inspiration in their natural surroundings. They used to depict natural elements on furniture and other items in geometrical shapes and patterns of circles, triangles, and squares to formulate floral or create patterns in an exquisite abstract way.

Arabesque art blossomed in the Abbasid period of the Islamic Empire. This was the golden age for Islamic art and science. With the translation of Iqleedes, who wrote about geometrical shapes and patterns that would become the foundation of arabesque art. Talented artists in the heart of medieval Cairo make handmade wood furniture using traditional oriental techniques. They design unique historically-inspired arabesque style tables and chairs with authentic materials.

Arabesque is one of the most authentic and charming styles even for modern Arab household. Arabesque furniture is ornate and elaborate. In spite of the popularity of modern, classic and contemporary styles, the oriental Arabesque style is a beloved and cherished art form celebrating Egypt’s rich heritage.

Our Ornate Royal Offering Scene Mahogany Table Inlaid with Mother of Pearl is one of the many stunning hand-carved pieces we have. Stunning ornate pharaonic table handcrafted with the finest material and carved out of lustrous mahogany wood and hand-inlaid with precious mother of pearl. The intricate marble-like, mosaic top depicts a royal ancient Egyptian scene where two laborers making offerings to King Osiris. They are asking for Osiris’ blessings and forgiveness.

The feather on the head of the first laborer symbolizes the purity of his heart as he is honest in his asking. The image is adorned with lotus flower, a traditional ancient Egyptian symbol of peace and love. The flowers are depicted alongside hieroglyphics spelling out Osiris. Also illustrated is a winged bird, a representation of the justice and balance associated with Osiris. Two additional historical depictions of offering rituals are depicted on the tabletop as well.

Nacre, Mother of pearl shell, is hand-inlaid on the table surface and its two sides. It enriches the table with a marble colorful effect. Mother of pearl shell is a natural kind of decoration that is extracted from the biomaterial that forms inside molluscan shells, as well as it makes up the outer coating of pearls. It has multiple uses in architecture, fashion, and music instruments. The natural Nacre tesserae are cut into small shapes then tinted with any color for decoration.

Tables in Ancient Egypt were low to the ground and usually made of wood, but some were made of stone or metal. Smaller tables with one leg were used for playing games or holding plates. Offering tables were used to offer food for the dead. These were usually made of stone and more ornate.
